Bulletin: Pentagon Announces ‘Next Generation’ Press Corps (New York Times)
The Defense Department announced on Wednesday that a “new generation” of journalists would be given access to the Pentagon after they signed rules on access to the building that were rejected by most major news organizations.
The announcement, posted on X by Sean Parnell, the chief Defense Department spokesman, did not name the journalists or outlets. But numerous right-wing, pro-Trump online outlets said they were among those that had agreed to the rules, including The Gateway Pundit; Human Events; LindellTV; Frontlines, an arm of Turning Point USA; and The National Pulse.
Last week, the Pentagon began restricting access to the sprawling building, allowing in only journalists who signed a 21-page document governing everything from soliciting tips to parking to photography.
Dozens of journalists from national outlets — including the major TV news networks, wire services, Bloomberg News, The New York Times and other newspapers — declined to sign the policy, citing concerns that it curbed their First Amendment rights, and handed in their press passes.
Talk Fallout: Russia Launches Strikes Across Ukraine After Trump-Putin Meeting Cancelled (Financial Times)
Russia unleashed a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least seven people and damaging critical infrastructure, the day after US President Trump’s latest peace efforts appeared to unravel.
The attacks came after Ukraine’s military said it had used Franco-British Storm Shadow missiles to hit a Russian chemical plant in the Bryansk region that produces gunpowder and explosives to fuel Moscow’s war machine.
EU leaders are meeting in Brussels today to discuss using Russia’s frozen assets for a €140bn loan for Ukraine, which could be used to arm Kyiv with European and US weapons.

Preservationists Alarmed: Trump to Demolish Entire East Wing to Build White House Ballroom (Bloomberg)
President Trump is demolishing the entire East Wing of the White House to build a $200 million ballroom at the property, a senior White House official said, a move that exceeds the original scope of the project as described by the president.
Originally, the president said the work on the White House grounds would not “interfere with the current building” and that the project’s plans paid “total respect” to the existing structure’s architectural style.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation,
in a letter
Tuesday, urged the administration to “pause demolition until plans for the proposed ballroom go through the legally required public review processes” and expressed concern that the size of the “proposed new construction will overwhelm the White House itself.”
